Hildegard's German Cuisine

Overview

If you’re craving a taste of authentic German cuisine in Huntsville, Hildegard's German Cuisine is the place to be. Nestled on 2357 Whitesburg Dr, this cozy restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience where you can enjoy a warm, welcoming atmosphere paired with hearty, flavorful dishes. Whether you’re a longtime fan of German fare or new to it, you’ll feel right at home here.

The moment you step inside, you're greeted by the rustic charm of a traditional German eatery, complete with wooden beams and cozy seating. The atmosphere is casual yet inviting, making it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal with friends, family, or even a date night. It’s clear that the team at Hildegard's is passionate about their heritage, as every detail, from the decor to the food, reflects the rich cultural traditions of Germany.

The menu at Hildegard's German Cuisine is packed with all the beloved German classics. One standout dish that many regulars rave about is the Schweinshaxe, a crispy, tender pork knuckle served with a side of sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. The crispy skin and juicy meat combine perfectly, delivering that melt-in-your-mouth experience you can only find at a truly authentic German restaurant. If you’re not in the mood for pork, the bratwurst sausages are a must-try. These perfectly grilled sausages come with a variety of sides, like warm potato salad and red cabbage, each bite bursting with flavor.

For those with a heartier appetite, the Wiener Schnitzel is a showstopper. Lightly breaded and golden brown, this crispy veal dish is served with a zesty lemon wedge and a side of lingonberry jam. It’s the ideal blend of crispy, tender, and tangy. It’s clear the kitchen at Hildegard’s knows how to master these traditional dishes.

Vegetarians aren’t left out either. The restaurant offers a selection of meatless options, including the Käsespätzle, a cheesy noodle dish that rivals any mac and cheese you’ve had before. Rich and creamy, with a subtle sweetness from the onions, it’s a dish that’ll leave you feeling satisfied without the need for any meat.

When it comes to drinks, Hildegard's German Cuisine offers an impressive selection of German beers, ranging from classic pilsners to darker brews like Dunkel. If you prefer something non-alcoholic, the house-made apple strudel iced tea is a refreshing choice that pairs wonderfully with any meal. And don’t forget to try their homemade Apfelstrudel for dessert-flaky, sweet, and packed with apples, cinnamon, and raisins. It’s a true crowd-pleaser.

The service here is friendly and attentive, with staff members always ready to share recommendations and ensure your experience is top-notch. If you’re unsure what to order, don’t hesitate to ask-there’s a reason so many people keep coming back to Hildegard's German Cuisine.

Another reason this restaurant stands out is its commitment to quality. Every dish is made with fresh ingredients, and you can taste the care that goes into every plate. It’s not just about the food here; it’s about creating a genuine experience that transports you to Germany.

For those who want to bring a little bit of the flavor home, Hildegard's German Cuisine offers a selection of imported German products, including mustards, pickles, and even bratwurst to take home. This is the perfect opportunity to recreate a bit of the magic in your own kitchen.

This was my first visit to Hildegard’s. My son and grandson also accompanied me. We all ordered different dishes and everyone loved what they got. My grandson wasn’t real fond of the red cabbage, but me and my son ate it up! Our AirTran’s was very attentive and answered all of our questions and was sssssooooo sweet! Can’t remember her name - sorry. It was a great meal and we will be back. Although it is a small establishment- it was really cozy and we didn’t feel cramped.

Oh man, this place is super authentic. The food was quick to come out and was the perfect temperature. Our waiter was super nice. The cheesecake was absolutely freaking amazing. I could have eaten it until I went into a diabetic coma. Tasted like my grandmother was in the back cooking.

We out to dinner with our family of four on Tuesday night. The host was very accommodating to us with our young kids. We all had schnitzels and enough for left overs. The Chicken Berlin Schnitzel with mashed potatoes and red cabbage.

Whether you get the veal, pork, or chicken schnitzel, your tummy will be happy! The schnitzels cover almost the entire plate, and you get your choice of two delicious sides. Very authentic potatoes, kraut, and sausages. With reasonable prices and convenience to downtown, you can't beat this German outpost. Don't expect frills. Simple plastic table toppers and no background music to speak of, but the filling German fare is what you come for, anyway. If you're extremely lucky, Jessica will be your server! She is outstanding and super friendly. When you have a hankering for German cuisine, check out Hildegard's!

Wanted something different on a business trip so we selected Hildegard’s. We were all VERY impressed! The food was outstanding! We sampled several of the appetizers: Pretzel & Beer Cheese, Asparagus Rolls, Goulash, and Kabob. All of it was great! I got the Bavarian Schnitzel and simple wow! It was so good, tender, and flavorful! I had the fried potatoes and kaespaetzel (german pasta salad) which were both delicious. The food all of my other coworkers had was equally good. I would highly recommend if you’re looking for some German food or just something different!

I was in the mood for something different so why not real German food. Had a German beer on happy hour, schnitzel, red cabbage, Spätzle and a bread basket. Beer was delicious. Nice variety of breads. Schnitzel was well pounded thin and crisp. Red cabbage was vinegary to me but good. It’s a cute place made up Of small rooms perfect for a date. Located in a small office area. I was there early otherwise you would need a reservation. Sylvia was a great wait staff! Check it out!

This is a wonderful cozy German restaurant. Food was good and delicious. Beer was cold , tasty and inexpensive. Staff were super friendly and attentive. Parking is alittle confusing as they share spots with other stores. There is a kids menu and my children enjoyed it.

I received a gift card for our wedding anniversary and we were pleasantly surprised by the food and service here. This is one of our new top spots to eat and have dessert/drinks. We ordered a huge platter to share which included chicken schnitzel, spatzel, polish sausage, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, and stroganoff. We also had wine and Black Forest cake. The chicken was deliciously thin and crispy, the sausage was juicy and flavorful, the potatoes were just the right amount of creamy. The atmosphere was friendly and casual, our server answered every question we had and even suggested his favorite dishes. We have nothing but great things to say. Definitely worth a try and we can’t wait to come back!
